Why are anchor cages still imported?
Despite India’s ambition to localize wind energy components, anchor cages are still being imported from China and other countries in many utility-scale projects.
The reasons:
- Not formally included in Domestic Content Requirement (DCR) and in the Revised List of Models and Manufacturers (RLMM).
- Lack of enforcement or specification in EPC contracts
- Misconception that India lacks the required capabilities
But the reality is: Indian manufacturers can and do produce anchor cages that meet global standards—welded, inspected, certified.
It’s not a capacity issue. It’s a policy visibility issue.
As a Chennai-based anchor cage manufacturing company, we feel compelled to raise awareness about this issue and call for this product to be included in the DCR in the near future.
